About Me

Originally from Minnesota, I’ve lived in several states and now call Central California home. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Art with an emphasis in animation, and storytelling is at the heart of everything I create.

My passion for storytelling began in childhood, long before I understood how animation worked. With the help of my grandmother, I would stage puppet shows for my parents using hand-cut paper animals. Those paper puppets are something I still have with me today. That early spark of creativity and drive for storytelling has never left me.

For me, animation is more than just a tool for storytelling. It allows a person to engage with a narrative in a way that other media often struggle to achieve. The written word, auditory narratives like radio broadcasts or campfire stories, and even other visual media like graphic novels or film and theatre, don’t fulfill the behaviors of a cartoon.

I have found that even in the simplest animations, great care is given to their designs. When done right, artists can create flowing movement that draws the eye inward and around with their imagery, allowing for a magical mimicry of time and space.

Animation was not my first choice for creating and sharing stories, but it is something that I have fallen in love with, particularly the western style of 2-Dimensional Animation because it feels as though it’s slowly fading from the public eye, being replaced by 3-D Animation and Anime as they rise to the top in popularity.

That feeling, the idea of being the underdog, is what drew me closer to the 2-D style. I wanted to champion something that not everyone else champions. Having this mindset when I animate makes me feel like a lonely firefly in a field of open grass. Everyone can either ignore it or capture it for themselves, something I aim to replicate in all my work.
